11 BEST Dog Toys of 2019
(Plus some awesome treats for the goodest dogs!)
There are so many dog toys on the market this year, and we all love to spoil our dogs with a new toy once in a while. Here is my low-down on the best dog toys available right now so you can treat your dog to a toy that will stand the test of time.
So many of you are thinking about adopting puppies or updating your pets toy cupboard (yippee) but we all want our pets to be healthy as well as happy!
Since opening my own dog boarding and day care facility, we have tried out a huge amount of dog toys and treats. I love to discover which is the next favouritre on the market!
These items will not disappoint – I have saved only the best for you! These are the 11 best dog toys as voted for by our visiting dogs. These favourites have made our dogs very happy indeed – I’ve even listed what I love about them from an owner’s perspective! 🙂
1. Recycled Tennis Balls
This may seem like a given – Tennis balls are an absolute must-have in any dog’s toy box, but I bet you didn’t think you could get recycled Tennis balls straight from the courts? Well as it turns out you can! These balls tend to be far more durable compared to (let’s face it, pretty cheap and nasty) generic balls that split in half after 5 minutes.
Professional use tennis balls are high grade and last for ages (I should know, I have buckets of them!) They’re easy to wash after a muddy game too.
Pop them in a cotton baggie and quick-wash at the lowest temperature. Allow to air dry and they’ll be good as new.
Why #JarvisDogs love them
- Easy to clean
- Eco-friendly option
2. The (mighty) Kong Wobbler
This beauty has seen us through many a rainy day. It’s robust, interactive and entertains puppies for hours. Unlike other toys on the market, this one is a brilliant challenge and takes dogs of all ages, a long time to draw out every tiny treat. It’s great mental stimulation for any dog on the go.
- Dishwasher friendly
- Excellent mental stimulation
- Perfect for busy puppies
3. (Super-tough) Black Kong
Oh, how I love the Kong range! They have so many great products that stand up to some tough play. Personally I favour the large black Kong. The different colours represent the density of the rubber, red is for average chewers, black is for pups with super strength!
The hollow centre of these toys is ideal for stuffing with something utterly delicious and are perfect for helping puppies settle. TOP TIP: I always go for the largest size available. Don’t forget, the dinky puppy versions are super cute, but if your dog out-grows them, they could become a choking hazard. Here’s Kong’s size guide to help you.
- Dishwasher safe
- Virtually indestructible
- Great for training
- Keeps your pet busy
- The perfect pairing for Peamutt Butter
4. (The Holy Grail) Peamutt Butter
This stuff is just amazing and I’ll tell you why. Not only do dogs absolutely love it but it’s also safe for them to use.
Some ‘human’ peanut butters have high salt, high sugar or if you’re not careful, high measures of xylitol (dog-toxic artificial sweeteners). These combos don’t make for a healthy pup, but Peamutt Butter is designed with your pet’s safety in mind. Perfect for Kong-stuffing and a brilliant reward after a long walk.
- Pet safe
- Concentration required!
5. Ultimate Frisbee!
Frisbee Disc is great on so many levels. It’s pretty lightweight as opposed to some heavier rubber brands but also high visibility for your pet. A good flier and great fun if you have a keen retriever. This toy can bring hours of fun. Ideal for those days when you’re feeling under the weather. Frisbee Disc helps exercise your pet at excellent distances.
- Aerodynamic design
6. Antler Chews
Antlers can be an acquired taste but if your dog takes a sine to these, you’ll have a firm favourite for life. Both moreish and hard-wearing, these antlers stand the test of time. Your dog will love this treat to keep their minds ticking over during a relaxing evening by the fire. Good for their teeth and a slow-release treat, this chew is great for teething puppies and can divert unwanted chewing habits in the home.
- Good for serious chewers
7. Pooch & Mutt Calming Treats
Pooch & Mutt opened their online doors in 2007 and since then have launched a range of treats to help dogs with joint disorders, puppy development and behavioural issues. Their calming treats are a favourite in our house, but you might want to see their full catalogue here. There’s something for everyone!
- Very tasty
- Broad range
- Ethically sourced
- Subscribe and save option
One for the sea-dogs! Fish skins are a great source of omega-3 and go down a treat. Snap them into treat-sized pieces or give your pet a big slice of the action. This is a fantastic high-value reward for puppy training. Good for their teeth and keeps coats shiny.
- Omega 3
- High protein
- Helps keep teeth healthy
The Chuckit! ball comes loaded with fun and excitement for all dogs great and small. If you have a football-crazy pup in the house this is the dog toy for you! With easy grip edges, this ball can be carried without being punctured (*cries* we’ve all been there). It’s tough outer-skin allows you and your dog to embrace all running surfaces and high visibility means you’ll never lose a ball again (well…unless it goes into the neighbours garden).
- Unique design
- High visibility
- Perfect for very big dogs
10. Snuffle Mat
Snuffle Mats are a hugely popular favourite in the UK and you can totally see why. Hiding treats has definitely never been more fun! Fill your pet’s mat with teats to discover and watch them figure it out. This toy provides hours of fun and is machine washable. Snuffle Mats not only come in a variety of bright colours but can be spliced together to make bigger snuffle areas.
- Machine washable
- Engages your pet’s nose
11. LED Glow Streak Ball
Last but most certainly not least. The GlowStreak LED light-up ball is definitely on our Christmas list. If your dog loves a night-time kick-about then this toy will keep them amused while providing some much needed visibility in the dark. It’s both durable and waterproof. It even floats! This is fetch with a difference.
- Five star visibility
